We’ve all seen it, the Pinterest-worthy gallery wall.
My dream setup is 4 framed, monochromatic blow ups of my kids, arranged in order from oldest to youngest. The only stipulation: I had to do it on a strict budget.
I started by creating a mock design of my photo wall.
Like most of my projects, I started with canva.com. Canva offers a free graphic design suite that you can access through the app store.
- First, I took a photo of my living room arrangement.
- Next, uploaded the photo it to a blank template.
- Last, I positioned my 4 photos of the kids above the couch.
I moved the photos around until I had a good idea of how I wanted to style my space. This also helped me to estimate what size prints I’d want.
I made a list of things needed to complete my vision.
- One edited photo of each child
- Four 16 x 20 poster prints
- Four 16 x 20 frames
It was time to work on pricing out my options.
For the poster prints, I chose Walgreens.com. Walgreens photo has same day printing services at most locations and many times, they have a discount offer. I bought poster prints, rather than photo prints, for additional savings. At the time of my order, the promotional campaign was 70% off wall decor. A 16 x 20 poster is regularly $19.99. I purchased 4 for around $6 each. Boom!
For the frames, I knew I wanted a minimal design. I chose basic black poster frames from Walmart.com. Each frame cost, again, around $6 each.
4 prints @$6 + 4 posters @$6 = $48
I was able to create my photo wall for $48!
The prints fit perfect on each poster so no mats were needed.
Hubs handled the hanging of each frame using a hammer, level and nails. It looked pretty simple but sorry, no tips from me on that portion of things. lol
The Final Product:
What do you think? Did I nail my vision?
I think I did!
Well, okay. I had one minor photo swap…
My goal was to get shots of each child clearly looking at the camera. So when it was my youngest’s turn, she picked up a rock and handed me this look. haha
After consideration, I chose the photo on the left. Mostly, because her body was facing forward like her siblings. Which would you have picked?
