Last Night, I started working on swapping my capsule wardrobe over to Summer. This dress was in the maybe pile from my previous purge. I had not tried this belted combination before. Now, I love it!
What is a Capsule Wardrobe?
Well according to Wikipedia, A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of clothes that can be put together in different ways and includes everything you would normally need to wear.
Having a minimal amount of pieces in my closet, means I keep items with intention. Every item has a purpose and is able to be multi-purposed. My capsule wardrobe yields a variety of looks without needing a variety of pieces.
Purge your closet seasonally.
In order to keep my capsule wardrobe sustainable, I purge my closet at least seasonally. It’s important to try everything on and decide if it still serves a purpose. This process could take several rounds. If an item is a maybe, try restyling it (as I did with my dress) or give it a few weeks to see if you have actually worn it. If not, it’s time to purge.
Organize your seasonal wardrobe.
Only display the items you will wear during the current season in your wardrobe. Out of season items can be stored. This way the options that you see in your closet will be usable for the current season. It is much easier, and more inspiring, to get dressed with less clutter.
What to do with unwanted belongings?
Do not just throw away your unwanted items. This is an important step! An estimated 50 million tons of clothing are thrown away each year. I promise there are more options than the trash can.
5 simple and sustainable practices I use to declutter:
Gift to family/friends.
I suggest using this option thoughtfully. Sort your gifted options before offering to someone else; fold them, pick out things you truly believe they might enjoy.
Donate to Goodwill.
Hello, tax break. Don’t forget to ask for your receipt to use when you file your annual return.
Resell on Poshmark.
Poshmark is a resale website that allows you to create a store with your items. Shipping is paid for by the buyer and you can easily print your labels and use free priority boxes from the post office to ship. If you are new to Poshmark, use MY CODE: MARGARITAK_ or CLICK HERE and receive a $10 credit.
Bring to a consignment store.
A quick internet search can help you locate consignment stores in your area. Depending on the store, you may receive cash immediately for selected items or you will receive a payout from the sale at a later date.
Join a local Buy Nothing Group.
Many BUY NOTHING GROUPS operate via Facebook. The concept allows for neighbors to gift their items to one another. I posted this reel on Instagram when I did my holiday declutter. Every single one of the items in that reel was gifted to a neighbor and left for pickup that day! I simply set on my doorstep and the clutter was gone!
